Global Economic Crime Survey 2007

According to PricewaterhouseCoopers' 2007 Global Economic
Crime Survey, nearly half of all organisations that were part of the survey, reported they were victims of some form of economic crime in the past two years

Over a third of Romanian companies reported being victims of
economic crime in the past two years. On average, Romanian companies had suffered more than seven incidents of fraud each in the past two years.

Fraud is a very costly business. Economic crime cost the participants
in the Romanian survey a total of US$ 13.7 million in the last two years! The average cost of economic crime in Romania has nearly doubled since our last survey (from US$ 223,577 per company over a two-year period in 2005, to US$ 405,260 in 2007).

Romanian companies spent a total of US$ 5.5 million on managing
the economic crimes to which they became victim in the past two years.

While fraud remains intractable, most companies are confident that
their control measures will limit their exposure to fraud in the future.

The survey interviewed senior representatives of more than 5,400 companies in 40 countries, including a number of leading companies within Romania and reveals that economic crime is universal, affecting companies of all sizes, on all continents and in all industries.
