Our Indirect Taxes team assists both local and international clients to manage their compliance with all aspects of the GST and Customs Duty regimes, particularly concerning investment into New Zealand. The team is regarded as a market leader and delivers practical, commercially focussed advice. Our GST practitioners have extensive experience, in some cases going back to the development phase of GST prior to its introduction in 1986.
In conjunction with our global network, the Indirect Taxes team provides a full range of services to industry, business, Government, and other organisations. These include:
- advice on land transactions, M&A transactions, and business sales/purchases (including DD input)
- advice to the financial services industry, including advice on the business-to-business rules and insurance rules
- GST consulting in the area of retirement villages
- advice on the application of GST laws to all forms of business transactions to ensure correct compliance and efficient planning
- consulting in respect of ex-New Zealand supplies of goods and services to other territories which impose VAT/GST; facilitating relationships with tax authorities, and claiming refunds of VAT/GST paid in other territories by New Zealand businesses

- advice in relation to Customs Valuation, origin issues, and assistance with Customs audits
- providing Customs valuation input for transfer pricing decisions
