Beyond cleaning up a community, rebuilding residences, refurbishing schools and playgrounds—beyond anything that takes place in a single day—these projects reinforce what it means to connect. To connect with each other, with our neighbors, and with the power of purpose. We come away with a sense of accomplishment and inspiration that we hope never leaves us. Building affordable housing for families in Guatemala was hard work. Children in the village made it easier. They learned our names and brought us fresh fruit. I learned that giving back is also about making meaningful connections. One person can give a child hope.
