PwC supports Telstra Business Women’s Award

PricewaterhouseCoopers is very excited with our involvement in the 2008 Telstra Business Women’s Awards. The Awards are an integral part of the Australian business calendar, celebrating the achievements of some truly remarkable women.

Past winners have included Sex Discrimination Commissioner Elizabeth Broderick; Boost Juice Bars founder and managing director, Janine Allis; Fernwood Health Clubs founder and chair, Diana Williams; and Maureen Frank, who participated in PwC’s recent Women’s Leadership Forum and developed the My Mentor program provided to partners and directors.

Our very own corporate tax partner Jane Madden was 2001 Queensland Telstra Businesswoman of the Year (Private, Corporate Sector). Jane, who has also won a Centenary Medal for Service to Australian Society in Business Leadership, won the award for a range of factors including business and client development, leadership of women’s programmes, and the example she set as a part-time partner.

In 2008 PricewaterhouseCoopers will support the Young Business Woman of the Year award category. This award celebrates the achievements of women’s personal goals and milestones and promotes the young entrepreneurial spirit.

In acknowledgement of our involvement, the winners from each state and territory, as well as the overall national winner, will be awarded the title of PricewaterhouseCoopers Young Business Woman of the Year.

PricewaterhouseCoopers’ sponsorship of the award is one of a number of initiatives to progress and support gender diversity in the workplace. Through our eQuilibrium program launched in 2004, we run various initiatives to support career progression, enhance development and extend the personal networks of PwC women. Our recent National Women’s Leadership Forum aimed to ‘Connect, Inspire and Empower’ our female partners and directors who in turn share experiences, provide positive role models and mentor other PwC women.

To qualify for PricewaterhouseCoopers Young Business Woman of the Year award women need to be under 34 years of age and enter into the categories of business owner; private sector and corporate; community and government; or business innovation.

Representatives from PwC will be involved in the judging of the overall awards.

PricewaterhouseCoopers will also host a range of events with the state and territory winners, as well as the national winner of the Young Business Woman of the Year award after their announcement in October, November and December, in award ceremonies across Australia.
