Our Actuarial Services practice provides all the traditional actuarial services including advice in general, health and life insurance, banking and superannuation as well as new areas in which we can apply actuarial skills and techniques.

Actuarial consulting is a core PricewaterhouseCoopers business and the organisation is working towards a global leadership position in actuarial services.

PricewaterhouseCoopers is already a major provider of actuarial services overseas – especially in USA, UK and Australia. The practice in Australia is one of the largest in that country with over 30 employed actuaries. Our New Zealand actuaries are able to access the depth of resource available in Australia and elsewhere.

Our services include:

Valuations
Outstanding claims, prudential margins, and IBNR provisions for general insurers; policy and capital adequacy reserves for life insurers; contingent liabilities including long service leave, loyalty bonuses, and customer guarantees; doubtful debt provisions; superannuation scheme liabilities.

Pricing and profit analysis
General insurance, life insurance, and health insurance products; banking and investment products; superannuation contribution rates; modelling of long tailed insurance.

Capital adequacy
Solvency requirements for general, life, and health insurers; capital requirements and prudential margins; asset/liability studies.

Capital management
Effective capital management programmes; business unit allocation of capital and monitoring; risk based performance targets.

Risk sharing
Risk sharing options for corporate liabilities; reinsurance retention and programmes for insurers; insurance retentions for corporates.

Other services include financial modelling and projections for decision making using stochastic processes; monitoring systems for business units and to give early warning of need for repricing or intervention; asset consulting including setting of investment objectives and policies, setting of strategic benchmarks, and monitoring of performance.
