Restaurant industry consolidation of companies

What’s the restaurant industry serving up? More deals. In 2004, 119 restaurant transactions were announced — more than double the number of transactions that occurred the previous year.

Consolidation is driving some of the deal activity. Recent transactions of this kind include Bob Evans acquiring Mimi’s Café ; the seafood restaurant company, Landry’s, reeling in Rain Forest Café, Chart House and The Crab House; and Dave & Busters gobbling up Jillians. Others are striving for diversification, growth, and market penetration.
