FAQs

FAQs

How many winners will there be?

The number of winners will be based on the calibre of applications received.

How many nominations will each school be allowed?

A school may make up to 3 nominations, depending on the size of the Year 13 class. The size considerations are as follows:

Less than 100 students = 1 nomination

100 - 200 students = 2 nominations

More than 200 students = 3 nominations

What happens if I move away during my time at University?

Moving from one New Zealand University to another won't affect your future payments - provided you continue to study a relevant degree, achieve satisfactory grades each year and develop a mutually satisfactory relationship with PwC. If you move offshore, fail your exams or abandon study, you will forfeit future payments.

Do I have to work for PwC once I finish my degree?

As part of this programme you will be required to make yourself available to work for PwC during holidays from the end of Year 3 of your degree onwards. PwC Aspire Scholarship recipients are under no obligation to work for us on completion of study, but we hope that the relationships you have developed, and the experience you have gained during your summer work will make this a very attractive option.

What sort of grades do I have to achieve to receive further payments?

To be eligible for ongoing payments, we require you to pass all papers studied and produce your academic transcript to us each year. If for any reason you fail a paper or number of papers, PwC reserves the right to withhold further payments. Hopefully this will be an added incentive to do your very best, and make the most of your learning opportunities!

Can I work for you during University holidays?

As part of this programme we require scholarship winners to make themselves available for holiday work from the end of Year 3 of their degree onwards. Our ability to provide work will depend on our work flow at that particular time. This valuable work experience will be as part of our Summer Intern Programme. It will give you the opportunity to find out more about our profession and people, whilst earning a competitive salary at the same time.

If I did work for you, what would I be doing?

We will endeavour to provide you with an opportunity to experience the same type of work you would be performing as a graduate at PwC - and our goal would be to ensure this is the most fulfilling learning experience possible for you.

What happens once I have been informed I've won the Scholarship?

Once our winners have been announced, we will present the Scholarship to you at your school assembly or prizegiving and/or invite you along with other fellow winners from your region to a presentation evening at your nearest PwC office. From the start of the University year, we will then keep in contact with you on a regular basis, and provide you with a ‘buddy' or mentor. This person will be someone who has been working with us for a year or two. They can help with any queries and keep you up to date with what is happening. They will also help you settle in when you work for us during your holidays.

What sort of career opportunities exist within PwC?

Each year we take a large number of graduates across the country into the various areas of PwC. To find out more about these areas, please click here.

Once I have submitted my application form, what does the process entail?

All applications from students nominated by their school will be reviewed and shortlisted. Shortlisted students will be invited to PwC for an interview. It will be an opportunity for you to find out more about PwC, tell us about your aspirations, and look around our offices.

Why is PwC undertaking this scholarship programme?

PwC places a very high value on education and as part of this commitment we’ve created our PwC Aspire Scholarship Programme to help tomorrow’s business leaders achieve maximum potential during their academic studies. At the same time we hope to provide you with all the information you might need to make decisions about a future business career and the type of employer you would like to work for.

Am I guaranteed a graduate position at PwC if I win this scholarship?

While there are no guarantees on work placement, we certainly hope that a high number of our PwC Aspire Scholarship winners will end up working for us.

Why isn’t my school part of the PwC Aspire Scholarship programme?

The schools for 2008 were selected based on existing relationships with PwC. If you wish to start developing a relationship with PwC now, we welcome you to do so and suggest the first step in the process is to click here for information on our well-established Summer Intern Programme. The PwC Aspire Scholarship programme is just one of our initiatives in education - we also have relationships with schools through our PwC Foundation.

I am a Year 12 student, but intending to go to university next year. Am I eligible for a PwC Aspire Scholarship?

Yes you are, provided you are intending to study a relevant degree and meet other programme criteria.

Other important information

  • The number of PwC Aspire Scholarships awarded in a given year will depend on the calibre of students nominated.
  • The PwC Aspire Scholarship will be conditional on satisfactory academic performance and the development of a mutually satisfactory relationship between the scholarship recipient and PwC, resulting from University summer holiday employment. The increase in the PwC Aspire Scholarship value each year is intended to reflect this developing relationship.
  • PwC has the right to withdraw support at the beginning of each academic year if these conditions are not met. It may turn out a selected PwC Aspire Scholarship winner does not match the culture of PwC, in which case PwC also has the right to withdraw the scholarship.
  • Recipients are obliged to make themselves available to work for PwC during University summer holidays from Year 3 onwards as part of our established Summer Intern Programme. It is anticipated that as a result of developing a relationship, recipients may wish to seek permanent employment with PwC.
  • Should you apply for more than one grant or scholarship associated with your university study, acceptance of the PwC Aspire Scholarship is dependent on mutual acceptance by PwC and other scholarship providers. A PwC Aspire Scholarship may not be accepted in conjunction with another corporate scholarship.
